A Topical Map (as it were)

I'm still assembling a lot of my thoughts, but at this moment here's a list of things I definitely know I want to address. These may become full posts, some may become even more than that. Some may disappear completely, lost somewhere in the whole mind-blog transmission process.

Community as the Metric
Functionality and Aesthetics: An Essential Duality
Designing for Community
Games as Social Utilities
The Content/Community Paradox
Architecture in Virtual Worlds: Designing Structure with New Constraints

I know for certain I'll think of more shortly, and please feel free to suggest others in the comments. I'm really looking forward to writing about all of this!

  1. Nice selection of topics. I'd love to hear your thoughts on what specific aspects of RL architecture should be held on to and what should be tossed out when building in virtual worlds. Perhaps you could also put online some OAR files of architecture examples that folks could download and explore on their own. Might be a fun way for you to illustrate your thoughts through interactive downloadable examples.

  2. Hey there Pathfinder! Good suggestions. I can definitely go through what makes sense in virtual architecture, it's what I plan to do in the last topic I listed (go figure). The OAR idea is a good one, I'm not sure I'll have the time immediately to do something that in-depth although I certainly hope I can at some point. I'll do my best to illustrate concepts graphically when I can, being a visual learner myself I understand the appeal of having something visual to help figure something out.

Maybe if this ever gets rolling, we can get a community tutorial repository going which would include text, images, video and OARs.
